  • Strategy data: the trading strategies you create, custom indicators, and conversation history with the AI assistant.
  • Payment information: billing details processed securely through Stripe. We do not store your full credit card number on our servers.
  • Communications: any messages you send to us through the contact form or email.

Information Collected Automatically

  • Usage data: pages visited, features used, backtest runs, and interaction patterns.
  • Device information: browser type, operating system, device type, and screen resolution.
  • Log data: IP address, access times, and referring URLs.
  • Cookies: session cookies for authentication and preference cookies for settings like dark mode.

  • Community features: if you publish a strategy to the Explore page, your display name and strategy details are visible to other users. Unpublished strategies remain private.
  • Legal requirements: when required by law, court order, or governmental authority.
  • Business transfers: in connection with a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets.

4. AI and Data Processing

When you use the chat interface, your messages are sent to OpenAI for processing. OpenAI processes this data according to their API data usage policies. We do not use your strategy data or conversations to train AI models. Your conversations are stored in our database to maintain chat history and are accessible only to you.

5. Market Data

BacktestGPT uses publicly available historical market data obtained through the Yahoo Finance API. We cache this data temporarily to improve performance. We do not redistribute raw market data — only computed backtest results derived from it.

6. Data Retention

We retain your account information and strategy data for as long as your account is active. Conversation history is retained to provide continuity in your interactions. If you delete your account, we will delete your personal data within 30 days, except where retention is required by law. Anonymized, aggregated data may be retained indefinitely for analytics.

7. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures including encrypted data transmission (TLS/SSL), secure authentication (NextAuth.js with OAuth), and access controls. However, no method of electronic transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

8. Your Rights

Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have the right to:

  • Access the personal information we hold about you
  • Request correction of inaccurate data
  • Request deletion of your data
  • Object to or restrict certain processing
